PRIVACY

A simple information site.

Effective October 5, 2026

Plague Map displays public, source-linked disease reports. This version has no visitor accounts, advertising, comments, or public report-submission form.

Site delivery

Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. Its infrastructure processes request information such as IP address, requested path, browser information, and security signals to serve pages and prevent abuse. We do not put account credentials or private editorial records in the browser.

Interactive map

Opening the homepage loads map tiles from Esri. Your browser sends Esri the requests needed to display those tiles, which can include your IP address and browser information. Leaflet is served locally. We do not request your device's location.

Published data

The map's public API returns a limited set of approved report fields. Airtable credentials stay on the server. The site does not publish patient addresses, contributor email addresses, or private review notes.

Email updates

If you subscribe, your email address is sent directly to Buttondown, our newsletter provider. Complete email confirmation to receive updates. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. The form opens Buttondown in a new tab; submitting it here does not itself confirm a subscription. We attach a signup-source tag, not your map searches or browsing history. Buttondown privacy policy. Contact privacy@plaguemap.com with privacy questions.

External links

Source links take you to independent websites with their own privacy policies. No third-party news articles or social feeds are embedded here.

Cookies and local storage

The application does not use analytics cookies. If you dismiss the sticky newsletter banner, browser storage remembers that preference for 30 days. The signup form remains available at the bottom of the page. Infrastructure security mechanisms may operate separately from the application.
